Races

The available races to play in Elrün are as follows: Aasimar, Dragonborn, Dwarf, Halfling, Human, Kor, and Shifter. Read below to check out more about the races in the land of Elrün. Please note that some of these races are homebrew and you can find details about them on this site.

In a world where angels walk among men aasimar become common. They can be found through all locals and many people mistake aasimar for angels themselves. People generally revere them and call them the blessed. They are most often seen around Dawnspire and many of its citizens are aasimar.

Having only come to Elrün a few hundred years ago. Originally being created by dark rituals to serve as powerful shock troops in war. The mages who originally created them eventually lost control as the Dragonborn people rebelled against their masters. Now free, they roam and wander the land seeking to find their place. Many view them with suspicion and the epitome of dark magic and its use.

Most of the great dwarven halls have been lost, though a few remain. Mountain and Eldünd dwarves mostly keep to themselves in their holds exporting some of the greatest arms and armors in Elrün. Hill dwarves, often referred to as Stone Dwarves, tend to live closer to the other races working with stone to create great buildings and edifices. A few dwarves roam the land as avid hunters of ancient holds, seeking for lost riches, glory and other ancient secrets of the past.

In the world of Elrün halflings are known as “kythlings” and the term “halfling” is a derogatory and insulting way to refer to their race. While there are a few small kythling settlements and towns, most live in the great cities among the “tall” folk and the majority of them are from the southern tip of Elrün. These affable and cheerful people treasure the bonds of family and friendship above all else and tend to stick together.

There are various human cultures throughout Elrün. The knowledgeable and seafaring Norians in the east, the versatile and resilient Cael in the west, the shorter arctic Kaldyr of the north, and the Valeran, expert huntsman of the woods and forests of Elrün.

These silent and nomadic people dwell in the high mountains and cliffs of Elrün. Keeping mostly to themselves they are deeply reverent of the land and exhibit a strong spiritual connection with the gods. Occasionally, they leave their cliffs and clans to trade. Some of these, having seen the wider world, choose to stay.

No one really knows the true origins of the Shifters. Most say they are the cursed offspring of lycanthropes and humans. Others claim they are the offspring of druids gone mad in the wild. Many shifters themselves claim their heritage is a blessing from Eoün himself, and through that heritage a connection closer to him than any other race. No matter what others say of their origins, they walk proudly through a world wary of their fierce capabilities.

Alignment

We will be using and alternate system to the traditional alignment system in DnD 5E. Questions and Answers

Rule Interpretations

Here is a reference doc to various DM interpretations of rule.

Is there an overall theme to the campaign?

Good vs evil of course! More specifically though, light vs shadow. Hopefully, you are not afraid of the dark.

Am I allowed to play the original human from the Player's Handbook?

Nope! I think the base human is pretty boring and underpowered. I also think the variant human is overpowered (a feat at 1st level is too much in my humble opinion). I have created four different human types, hopefully you will find them to your liking.

Why are there no Elves, I really want to play one?

Sorry, personally I think Elves are lame. Also, when creating a homebrew world, it can be difficult to reconcile the long lifespans of elves. If there is a particular racial ability from the elf you were wanting, I would encourage you to take a look at the Shifters or Valeran Humans.

Are there many magic items in this world?

Magic items are very rare. They are ancient relics of the past that usually turn up in random places (deep dungeons, old ruins, a farmers field). The few that are known are usually passed down in noble families or wielded by the king, magistrate or other prominent leader of the great cities.

Do I really need to read all these stories?

You don’t have to, however, they represent common knowledge, legends, and other tales that are heard in the realm. I have written them as a fun way to impart that information to you.

Wow, this website is really cool, how long did it take you to build it.

Short answer, don’t ask. Long answer, years. Thanks Tyler for your help contributting to it!
