The Lost Trader

A traders journey to the north.

So cold. He never imagined that it could be this cold! They called him crazy, they said it was foolish to travel the tundra in the winter. But he would be the first! No one had ever traveled to the great Moot in Harlbrak. He could imagine arriving in the dead of winter to trade ales, weapons, and armor! In the dead of winter – the respect he would receive from the kaldyr would allow him to charge a premium. He would come back as the richest trader in Westport! He just first had to make it through the tundra. This would be no easy journey, it wasn’t that far really though. He would make it.

Two days later…

It couldn’t be too much farther could it? He had already traveled three tendays! He was almost out of rations, but that wouldn’t matter much if he made it to Harlbrak. The peddler looked behind him to check on ol’ Daisy pulling his wagon. She had been with him far and wide, and she would see him through as she always had. She was the finest and best purchase he had ever made as a trader.

They just had to go a little farther.

He was getting tired, he had traveled so long. Perhaps he should just lay down for the evening and continue his journey tomorrow. It was so hard to know which direction you were traveling in this land. Everything was so white. The ground, the mountains, the sky even! It had been days since he had last seen the aurora. He only had to keep it on his left. That’s the secret he had learned. You could navigate the tundra in the winter if you knew to follow the aurora. It was still a risk though, but it was worth the risk. He just had to endure the cold, and the snow, and the long long nights. Oh, he longed to be at his home in Westport and out of this cold and snow and the endless trudging through drifts. It just made him so tired. He would continue in the morning after he rested. Where was Daisy with his tent, and wood for a nice warm fire? No matter, he was too tired. In fact he didn’t even feel cold anymore. Perhaps he could lie down, the snow was so soft it would make a great bed for the evening.

He would continue… tomorrow.
