Overview
It’s time to get your character created! Besides canon DnD content, there are two additional sources of information you will need to reference as you create your character – this website, and a Notion Repository. Dive in and start exploring all the race, class, and other character options you have available, including many new homebrew options.
Classes
Review dndbeyond.com for the list of playable classes for your character. All official classes and subclasses are allowed except for the Artificer. You may also choose the Blood Hunter, current UA options or other homebrew options with permission. Keep in mind that if you play a homebrewed class or variant, the features and abilities may be subject to change throughout the campaign.
Races
The available races to play in Shakai are below. Please note that some of these races are homebrew and you can find details about them on this site.
Due to the entropic state of Shakai, any race that normally has an extensive lifespan only lives up to 250 years instead.
Lineages or custom lineages are not permitted.
Aasimar
Whether descended from a celestial being or infused with heavenly power, aasimar are mortals who carry a spark of the Upper Planes within their souls. They can fan that spark to bring light, ease wounds, and unleash the fury of the heavens.
Darkwrought
Dragonborn
Chromatic or Metallic Ancestry: You have +2 Strength and +1 to another stat of your choice. You also have Blindsense 10ft.
Gem Ancestry: You have +2 Charisma and +1 to another stat of your choice.
Dwarf
All dwarven races are playable, as well as the Eldünd on this website. The backstory for the race is different on Shakai than the original text states, so consult the DM regarding it’s history if you want to play an Eldünd.
Genasi
There are a few homebrew adjustments to the Genasi race. The features remain the same except for the following changes:
Air Genasi (Kaze). +2 to Dexterity and +1 to a different score. No darkvision.
Earth Genasi (Ishi). +2 to Constitution and +1 to a different score. Tremorsense with 20ft range. No darkvision.
Fire Genasi (Nensho).+2 to Intelligence and +1 to a different score. Everything you see in darkness is in a shade of red.
Water Genasi (Mizu). +2 to Wisdom and +1 to a different score. No darkvision.
Goblin
There are a few homebrew adjustments to the goblin race. The features remain the same except for the following change:
Nimble Escape is removed.
Stat Increase. +2 to Intelligence and +1 to a different score.
Crazy Experimenter. You have proficiency with the Alchemist’s Kit. When you make a skill check using an Alchemist’s Kit you can gain a bonus to the check equal to your level. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Goliath
Halfling
They are a thing.
Human
Humans are the most common race. If you choose to play a human, you may not be the ‘Variant’ Human option.
There are many types of humans on DM Saga, which were created with different themes for different campaigns. However, if you like the mechanics of one of those human options, then check with the DM as many of those would be allowed in this campaign, with just some flavor-text changes regarding their origin.
Kalashtar
Kenku
Kitsune
Despite an irrepressible penchant for deception, kitsune prize loyalty and make true companions. They delight in the arts, particularly riddles and storytelling, and settle in ancestral clans, taking their wisdom from both the living and spirits.
Orc
Shadar-kai
Shadar-kai have ashen skin tones, and while they’re in the Shadowfell, they also become wizened, reflecting the somber nature of that gloomy plane.
This is the only elf race still present on Shakai.
Tiefling
Backstory
You must keep your backstory length down to 500 characters, which is about the size of a single paragraph. Type (or write) in anything that you think might be important to your character, such as, and I strongly recommend – their name, high-level of what they can do, their background, personal purpose or motives, bonds, pacts (warlocks), etc. Write it as if it were your character writing a note to him/her self. Shortening words, bullet-point styles, and other creativity in order to fit more information within 500 characters is ok (as long as a stranger could reasonably understand it).
ANIMA
A new resource which can be used for spells, trade, and XP pumping. Anima is soul-energy, which is white, liquid-like, weightless, can be held within an individual, and ‘willed’ out by the holder freely.
